Some of my favorite animals that I've done for Wild Hunt f2p game with baked light on final texture using Cycles. Highpoly was done in Zbrush, retopo and final bake in Blender. Textures, regarding what animal required were made in Substance Painter, mostly for scaled animals, or 3dCoat combined with Photoshop + Custom brushes to create believable fur effect.
